Summer ends in Wisconsin

Last night a front went through and I don’t think we will see the 80′s again here in Wisconsin! Adios Summer 2010…

1/8th Scale Electric Buggy

I have raced a couple of nights with a new Team Associated RC8Be on the indoor track at S&N’s Trackside. I have a lot of practice to do, being almost two laps slower than the faster guys on the track at this point but this is a fun class to drive. I am relatively new to RC racing and am by no means a great driver yet but I can tell this because at the end of each qualifier and main the group is all smiling and the racing (at the front) was close. The Associated Factory Team kit was nice and went together relatively easy. It took me about 6 hours to build to the manuals specifications. I will say that using a good amount of thread lock on metal to metal connections is a must. I am using a Tekin RX8 speed controller driving a Tekin T8 1900KV motor (1900KV is the limit for the class on this track). The 1900KV limit is nothing because you can easily clear the indoor triples from a dead stop if you need to and geared right it flies on the straights. Outdoors I assume more motor is going to be a must. On the indoor track the setup is the key to speed. I will write more as I learn the best ingredients to setting this car up. Fast laps for the current track configuration are in the low 17 seconds and I am set up bone stock with the exception of 5-7-2 differential fluids. I am in the 19 second range now but improving as I get more time in the seat so to speak.

I am looking forward to watching this class grow and evolve and also to the winter when, from what I understand, the Wisconsin RC crowd comes in from the cold and there are a lot more participants.

Header Picture

The picture on the header is from a dive off Nassau in the Bahamas. It was taken with a Canon SD800IS in an Ikelite housing with a Sea and Sea YS17 Strobe. I think it turned out pretty good!

MacBook Pro

I have been using a MacBook Pro (13 Inch) for the past 8 months. I have to say this is the best laptop I have ever used. I am using Bootcamp to dual boot with Mac Snow Leopard and Windows 7 and have had nothing but perfect performance. Battery life is actually usable and it is light, easy to carry and is a joy to use compared to the HP I was issues at work. Kudos to Apple on these machines! It has turned a long time PC guy into a Mac enthusiast. Now is we could just get the iPhone on Verizon!

I have changed hosting companies and am in the process of setting up my site again. I will hopefully get that done this weekend and be blogging and adding content again soon.
